The Jack Rose Cocktail with Applejohn
If you have never had a Jack Rose Cocktail, it is some combination of Applejack, Grenadine, and lime. Seems easy enough but what is missing, on most that know this cocktail, is the traditional applejack difference. The Jack Rose with apple brandy is a good drink but nothing like one made with a traditional applejack. Applejohn is sour and can be brought into balance with the addition of sugar via the grenadine. Grenadine is sweetened pomegranate juice not super expensive human hummingbird nectar sugar water. Read the ingredients if purchasing. My homemade grenadine recipe is easy. Take 1 cup Pom, 1 cup sugar (3/4c Brown, 1/4c White), the peel of a medium sized orange. Slowly bring to a boil. Remove orange peel. Cool. Store in freezer when not needed. Should last a few months. Use fresh squeezed lime for best results. When making your Jack Rose. Adjust the ratio of Applejohn to grenadine and see where you find balance between the sweet/sour nature of a well made Jack Rose.
